“And They’re Off!” – GSP Amazing Race

“And They’re Off!” – GSP Amazing Race

Early on the morning of Saturday, July 5th, while the majority of the campus was fast asleep, 80 scholars were preparing for the Amazing Race. The 40 teams laced up their shoes and stretched in the lobby as they waited with anticipation for their first clue. Each group was called up individually to begin their race, with R.A. Ben sending them off.

“It was long and tiring, but rewarding at the end,” said participant Jaxon McCubbin.  Over the course of nearly 3 hours, 4 miles, and 10 challenges, the competitors raced against the clock. While the GSP still upholds the value of no competition, the racers took this opportunity to push themselves to be the first to complete the challenges.

Scholars Barron Bradshaw and Jaxon McCubbin were the first to complete the Amazing Race. By the time they reached the lobby, they were out of breath and overjoyed to be crowned unofficial winners. After their completion, pairs continued to flow into the Franklin lobby ready to sit down and finally rest.

After strenuously working through nearly a dozen challenges, scholars definitely had their favorites and least favorites. Different stations around campus contained tasks that put scholars to the test both physically and mentally. Each duo took their hints and completed their stations in a different order, but many students considered the running to be the most difficult challenge of all. Stations varied in location and difficulty. One required scholars to list all 50 states, while another one required scholars to walk blindfolded through a maze. Other challenges included word searches, marshmallow tosses, cup stacking, and much more.

Although they were exhausted both physically and mentally, the Amazing Race participants ended the event content with their great achievements.
