The “I Like to Move It Move It” club, led by RA’s Laney and Anna, has definitely gotten scholars up and moving. Over the course of the 5 week GSP program, scholars have the opportunity to complete a series of 4 classes. The classes consist of: yoga, spin class, zumba, and a mystery class. Through the first two weeks of classes scholars have already connected with like-minded fitness enthusiasts. Though many scholars are new in their exercise journey it has helped them gain confidence and discover their passion.
Week One: Calm and relaxing yoga taught by RA Laney. Laney guided scholars into a peaceful realm, teaching them different moderate yoga poses. Stretching and taking care of their bodies early in the morning has led to a series of positive days for the scholars. In the last 15 minutes of the class scholars laid on their back to indulge in guided meditation and just “be in your own body” as Laney stated. Many scholars got so relaxed they fell asleep!
Week Two: The energy soared with a challenging and exhilarating spin class. Scholars bonded as 2000’s beats reverberated around the room. Following RA Anna’s leadership, the group sweated their hearts out as they biked. Ramping speeds up to 115 RPG and back down to 70 RPG in under 2 minutes mixed with a constant variety of standing and sitting, the exhilarating experience wouldn’t have been complete without the unforgettable arm workouts.
If you’re looking to begin your fitness journey or just make new friends this club is for you! Join us in the wellness center at 7:00 am on Tuesdays! The next class is zumba so bring your dancing shoes!
