Family Feud, Field Trips, and Filet Minion: A Day in Healthcare
Written by: Josiah Self

On Friday, July 18th, the Healthcare Focus Area met in FH 203 ready to discover the exciting world of medicine. The first thing Tate’s class did was diligently read the Racer Report, which detailed all the exciting activities planned for the day. Afterwards, the class participated in their fun tradition of playing Family Feud before each lesson. However, the scholars were not on their best game today. They kept losing points—until Steve, GSP Murray’s Associate Campus Director, walked in.
Originally stopping by to confirm a few graduation details with the scholars, Steve jumped in to save the day. With his help, the scholars performed much better. They may not have beaten their previous record, but playing Family Feud with Steve was definitely a life goal for some of them.
After Steve concluded his business, Tate directed the class to write thank-you notes to their many sponsors. Some recipients had donated their time, while others had provided or facilitated equipment such as microscopes and lab materials. The thing scholars were most grateful for, however, was the opportunity to participate in such memorable field trips.
Next, scholars headed to Waterfield Library to research and craft posters showcasing the culture and practices of healthcare systems around the world. Featured countries included Japan, Canada, Italy, and Nigeria. And, of course, Caden Wang “wowed the crowd” with his incredible Filet Minion—a realistic cutaway of a minion’s biology.
Healthcare is definitely a fan favorite among scholars. David Niyigena said, “Healthcare was not my first choice, but it’s really great. Tate makes it fun and engaging.” There’s no doubt this class will live in the memories of scholars for years to come.
