Scholars Score Big at Their First GSP Themed Party
Written by Ella Pierce

The first themed party of the GSP experience—Scholars vs. Ballers—kicked off with energy and excitement on Saturday night, July 7th, at 8:45 pm. Just moments before, the Trivia club wrapped up in the Freed Curd Center. After congratulating the week two trivia champions, RA Seth made an unexpected announcement: a mandatory hall meeting would lead directly into the first GSParty—and it would start in less than an hour.
A frenzy of anticipation began as scholars’ questions filled the air: “Did you know about the party?!” “What are you wearing?” “What is it going to be like?” As scholars made their way down out of Franklin Residence Hall and headed to the wellness center, excitement and laughter filled the air.
Lights. Music. Action. The moment they entered, the dance floor came alive. Scholars—decked out in jersey’s, dunks, button-downs, and ties—jammed out to an upbeat playlist made by the Residential Advisors (RAs). This weekend’s playlist spanned genres and decades featuring upbeat hits like: “The Spins,” “Mr. Brightside,” “Dancing Queen,” “Before He Cheats,” “Style,” and more. Like many dances, there was a dance circle, lots of jumping up and down, and many sweaty individuals belting out every lyric to every song.
However, a GS party is not your typical dance atmosphere. Where else do you see RAs in the middle of the circle? Where else do two-week-old friendships feel like life-long bonds? And where else do so many individuals—each so different—come together and thrive as one vibrant, joyful community.
After an hour and a half of non-stop energy, the night came to a close, and scholars reluctantly left the floor despite their fatigue. In many eyes, it was a huge success. A few scholars even described it as…unforgettable.
This night made scholars excited for the next GSparty–even if it comes with just thirty minutes’ notice!
